Turramurra Kindergarten has adopted the Rainbow Food Initiative! We offer your children the opportunity to eat all of the colours of the rainbow whilst in our care environment. By exposing children to a variety of healthy, nutritional & colourful food at an early age assists in influencing them to make healthy choices in the future. Moving forward, we will teach the children about where their food comes from and involve them in growing a variety of fruits, vegetables and herbs. This includes the cycle from beginning to end by using our compost & worm farms to promote healthy soil using the “worm tea.” How rewarding will it be to be able to harvest and eat what we have grown ourselves! Below you can discover their 6-week rotating menu cycle which you will see the rainbow of amazing foods that your child will be offered. The menu also includes purees for the little ones, a fantastic variety of alternate meals for children with allergies and all meats included in the menu are Halal Certified (a certificate can be provided upon request)

Place you child’s bag in a locker. Complete daily Check in on IPAD in the OWNA Kiosk. Place sunscreen on your child (there is sunscreen provided in each room, and staff will ensure sunscreen is reapplied before going outside in the afternoon). Ensure your child has a clean nappy on. Inform staff of any changes e.g., routines, pick up time, who is picking up your child in the afternoon. If someone is picking up your child that the staff are unfamiliar with, the person will be required to show photo identification before the staff can release your child. Check your communication pocket for receipts/letters (communication pockets are in each room). Spend 5-10 minutes with your child as they settle into an activity, and remember to say goodbye when you leave.

ALL CHILDREN ARE REQUIRED TO BRING A BAG CONTAINING: Nappies are supplied by the service however if your child has a specific need for a specific type of nappy parents will need to bring their child’s own nappies – 5-6 nappies (if required). Bottles and formula (if required). A wide brimmed hat or legionnaire (no caps please as they do not offer enough protection from the sun). Dummy or comforter (if required). A single bed sheet or 2 cot sheets for rest time (sheets are provided for children in the nursery).

Check with the staff about your child’s day. Our learning environment provides children with the opportunity to play, explore and engage in lots of fun and messy activities. Therefore, we ask that children are not dressed in good clothes that you do not want to get dirty. Due to our sun safety policy children’s clothing must cover their shoulders – no singlets or sleeveless clothes are allowed. Overalls are not recommended as they can be difficult for children when going to the toilet and during nappy changes. We recommend children wear joggers or sandals, as thongs, big boots and shoes with heels are not practical and can be dangerous during gross motor experiences.

TO HELP REDUCE THE SPREAD OF ILLNESS AND INFECTION WE ASK FAMILIES TO OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING: children with a contagious illness (including head lice and nits), or who have experienced a temperature, vomiting or diarrhoea in the past 24 hours are to be kept at home. However, if we have a notified gastro outbreak within the service the exclusion periods will be increased to 48hours. children who are generally unwell and require one on one care need to be kept at home also. Parents/caregivers will be rung and asked to collect their child during the day if they develop a temperature, experience diarrhoea twice or vomiting. If in the event parents or primary caregivers cannot be reached or are unable to collect their child immediately staff will ring the emergency contact persons noted on the enrolment form and arrange for children to be picked up.

It is a policy of Turramurra kindergarten that staff may only administer to children medication prescribed by a doctor. Please note that children are not to attend the centre for the first 24 hours of starting any medication. A medication form is to be completed by parents/caregivers each day that your child requires medication whilst in care. A letter is required from a doctor if your child requires medication on a regular basis. Please note that we do not administer Panadol to children.
