A Day in Our Lorikeets Room: Daily Routine at Turramurra Kindergarten
What does a typical day look like for children aged 0–3 years?
At Turramurra Kindergarten, our Lorikeets Room provides a familiar daily rhythm where young children can play, explore, learn, eat well and rest throughout the day.
While our routine provides structure and consistency, educators also respond to children's individual interests, needs and development.
Starting the Day with Free Play
Mornings in the Lorikeets Room begin with free play, giving children time to settle into the day and choose activities that interest them.
Children can explore the indoor environment, interact with their friends and educators, and enjoy breakfast as they arrive and begin their morning.

Indoor, Outdoor and Nature Play
Throughout the morning, children have opportunities to enjoy both indoor and outdoor play.
Outdoor and nature play allows young children to move their bodies, explore their surroundings and experience different textures, sounds and environments.
These everyday experiences support children's curiosity and encourage them to learn through hands-on exploration.
Learning Based on Children's Interests
Learning experiences in the Lorikeets Room can look different from one day to the next.
Our educators observe the children closely and use their interests, ideas and development to help plan meaningful play-based learning experiences.
Whether children are interested in music, movement, sensory play, books, animals, art or exploring their environment, their interests can become opportunities for further learning.
This approach helps make learning relevant and engaging for each child.

Nutritious Meals and Snacks
Good nutrition is an important part of the daily routine.
Children enjoy breakfast, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea throughout the day. Morning tea and snacks can include fresh fruit and vegetables, along with a variety of other options.
Our kitchen also provides nutritious meals, including protein, vegetables and other foods to support children's growing bodies.
Mealtimes are also opportunities for children to develop everyday skills and routines, including hand washing and sitting together to enjoy their meals.
Rest and Nap Time
After lunch, children have an opportunity to rest and recharge.
Many children in the Lorikeets Room sleep for around two hours during the day, although rest needs can vary between children.
Having a consistent rest period helps children have the opportunity to relax and be ready for more play and learning when they wake.

Afternoon Play and Learning
After rest time, children enjoy afternoon tea before continuing with play and learning experiences.
The afternoon provides more opportunities for children to explore their interests, interact with educators and friends, and participate in experiences planned around their development.
A Routine Built Around Children
For young children, a daily routine provides a sense of familiarity and security.
At the same time, we recognise that every child is different. Our educators adapt their approach based on children's interests, individual needs and observations throughout the day.
A typical day in the Lorikeets Room brings together:
Indoor, outdoor and nature play
Play-based learning experiences
Nutritious meals and snacks
Rest and nap time
Relationships and social connection
Observation and responsive learning
Consistent care and active supervision
At Turramurra Kindergarten, our goal is to provide a warm and supportive environment where our youngest learners can play, explore, learn and grow at their own pace.
Every day may be a little different, but there is always something new to discover.
