At Turramurra Kindergarten, we recognise the important role physical activity plays in children’s learning, development, and wellbeing. Through a variety of movement-based experiences, we help children build confidence, coordination, resilience, and the fundamental skills they need for everyday life.
One of the exciting additions to our physical education program is Rugby Tots, a fun and engaging program designed specifically for young children.
Learning Through Movement
Children are naturally active and curious. They love to run, jump, throw, kick, and explore the world around them through movement. Our physical education program encourages children to develop these skills in a structured yet enjoyable way.
Throughout the week, children participate in Munch & Move sessions where they practise a range of fundamental movement skills, including:
Underarm and overarm throwing
Kicking and ball control
Balancing and coordination
Running and agility
Spatial awareness and body control
These skills provide an important foundation for future participation in sports, physical activities, and everyday tasks.

Introducing Rugby Tots
Our Rugby Tots program introduces children to the basic skills of rugby in a safe, supportive, and age-appropriate environment. Through games and interactive activities, children learn how to:
🏉 Kick and control a ball
🏉 Pass and catch
🏉 Dribble and move with purpose
🏉 Follow instructions
🏉 Work as part of a team
The focus is not on competition but on participation, enjoyment, and skill development.

More Than Just Sport
While Rugby Tots helps children develop physical abilities, the benefits extend far beyond movement.
As children participate in group activities, they learn valuable social and emotional skills such as:
Teamwork and cooperation
Communication
Confidence
Persistence
Respect for others
Problem-solving
These experiences help children build positive relationships with their peers while developing a sense of achievement and self-belief.

Supporting School Readiness
Physical development is an important component of school readiness. Strong gross motor skills support children’s ability to participate confidently in classroom activities, playground games, and daily routines.
Programs like Rugby Tots encourage children to listen carefully, follow directions, work collaboratively, and develop independence—skills that support a successful transition to school.
Learning Through Play
At Turramurra Kindergarten, we believe children learn best when they are actively engaged and having fun. Rugby Tots provides a wonderful opportunity for children to stay active, challenge themselves, and develop important life skills through play.
It has been fantastic to see the enthusiasm, energy, and teamwork displayed by the children as they participate in each session.
We look forward to continuing to provide enriching experiences that support every aspect of children’s growth, development, and wellbeing.
